About this office

Municipal Trade Licensing Office, seat: Brno — specifically Magistrát města Brna – Živnostenský úřad města Brna — is one of the 227 offices established at municipalities with extended powers (ORP). For an in-person visit, use the office hours on Monday and Wednesday, always 08:00–17:00. Do you want to avoid travelling? A trade licence can also be notified electronically — via a data box (datová schránka) or the Citizen Portal (Portál občana) for 800 Kč instead of 1,000 Kč for an in-person filing. The same city also hosts other Trade Licensing Offices — separate offices, each with its own territorial scope, not duplicates of one office.

How to register your trade here

  1. When to go in person: You can visit in person: Monday, Wednesday.
  2. Fee: The fee for your first trade registration is 1,000 Kč at the counter, or 800 Kč for an electronic filing.
  3. Or skip the trip: You can also file electronically via a data box (datová schránka) or the Portál občana — www.rzp.gov.cz
  4. What happens next: If your notification meets the requirements, your licence takes effect on the day you file, and you will get the register extract within 5 working days. Full details are in the article Trade registration step by step.

Registering a trade — Jihomoravský kraj

Jihomoravský kraj is among the larger regions: 21 municipal Trade Licensing Offices, with the regional office forming part of Krajský úřad Jihomoravského kraje in Brno. Municipal Trade Licensing Offices are established by law only at municipalities with extended powers (ORP) — not at every town hall, but at selected offices that also handle the agenda for surrounding municipalities in their administrative district. In this region, they are based specifically in these cities: Blansko, Boskovice, Brno, Bučovice, Břeclav, Hodonín, Hustopeče, Ivančice, Kuřim, Kyjov, Mikulov, Moravský Krumlov, Pohořelice, Rosice, Slavkov u Brna, Tišnov, Veselí nad Moravou, Vyškov, Znojmo, Židlochovice. Any of these offices can accept a trade notification regardless of where in the region (or outside it) you have permanent residence or registered seat (sídlo) — the law sets no local competence based on residence. You may also choose an office outside your place of permanent residence — for example closer to work or on your route — all municipal Trade Licensing Offices have the same authority to accept a notification. Apart from an in-person visit, any Czech POINT contact point can also accept the filing and forward it to the competent Trade Licensing Office under § 72 of the Trade Licensing Act. Above the municipal offices stands the regional Trade Licensing Office — in this region it is Krajský úřad Jihomoravského kraje – odbor správní a Krajský živnostenský úřad (seat: Brno). It is an appeal and methodological authority: it decides appeals against municipal office decisions and harmonises their practice, but it does not accept trade notifications themselves — for those, you turn to the municipal offices listed above. Anyone who does not want to travel can also notify a trade licence electronically — via a data box (datová schránka) or the Citizen Portal (Portál občana) for 800 Kč (an in-person filing at an office costs 1,000 Kč).

Frequently asked questions

Can I file a trade notification here directly, or will I be sent elsewhere?
This is a municipal Trade Licensing Office — you can notify a trade licence directly here. Under § 10 of the Trade Licensing Act, authorisation for a notifiable trade arises on the day of notification; the office issues the extract from the Trade Register within 5 working days of delivery.
On which days is the office open to the public?
For an in-person filing, allow for office hours on Monday and Wednesday, always 08:00–17:00. The precise and current schedule is in the office-hours table above on this page.
Can the notification be filed without travelling to this office?
An in-person visit is not necessary. A trade licence can also be notified electronically via a data box (datová schránka) or the Citizen Portal (Portál občana) — the administrative fee is then 800 Kč instead of 1,000 Kč for an in-person filing.
At what address will I find the office?
You will find the office at Malinovského náměstí 624/3, 602 00 Brno — the map above on this page shows the precise location.
Does having several offices in the city mean I can choose any of them?
These offices each have their own territorial scope even though they are based in the same city — they are not duplicates. A trade notification is accepted by any municipal Trade Licensing Office in the Czech Republic regardless of residence, so you can choose.
